Day 2
We had great plans for the day that included multiple museums among other things. Our schedule was dependent on great organization. Oops... we enjoyed a late morning with a nice breakfast in our apartment. Spent a bit of time cursing the mosquito(s) that had plagued my and Annette's sleep leaving us with multiple itchy bites and finally got out mid morning-ish for our first vaporetto experience involving taking the vaporetto in the WRONG direction. And neglecting to pay because we hadn't quite figured things out.
Oh well....no harm. Only one stop to the Ferrovia (train station) where we decided to take advantage of the error and buy our tickets to Verona for the next week and buy some sun glasses for Anabel who had forgotten hers. In addition we bought a vaporetto pass so we would no longer be illegal riders. Tickets bought, sunglasses (and a hat) purchased for Anabel, we were off!
This time in the correct direction to arrive at Santa Maria della Salute Church, built as a votive for deliverance from the plague in the mid 1600's. It's a beautiful church filled with art with paintings by Tintoretto,Titian and other Italian artists of the time.
Next was the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, a marked contrast to the art of La Salute. The Guggenheim is housed in the Palazzo that Guggenheim used as her home and the site of her extensive modern art collection which she opened to the public in 1949. It's right on the grand canal and has a beautiful garden in addition to the large art collection.

By now it was late in the afternoon as we made our way back in the direction of home. We had been told of another Campo (Piazza in Venice) that was lively and with restaurants that were good so we headed for that. A total bust!! It felt like a touristy sort of place and we just didn't like it so we began walking and I realized we were in the neighborhood of the hotel I stayed in 4 years ago and there was a really good restaurant right around the corner. That's where we went for a terrific dinner! There was an octopus salad for me and Annette, a shared pasta (again with smoked ricotta which seems popular in this area), a whole lobster for Annette, a whole branzino for me and a filet with porcini sauce for Anabel and, of course, plenty of delicious wine.
Another day well spent!

Whole lobster - way to go mom!
